AR Strike Zone

Size the zone to your hitter. Drop it over home plate with your phone. Walk around it and see it from anywhere.

Step 01 · Size it to your hitter
How tall is the zone?

BottomKnee tops, in.

Measure in the batting stance, not standing tall. Height gives a rough start. Best: stand your hitter in their stance and run a tape from the ground to the armpits and to the top of the knees.
Step 02 · See it over the plate
Drop the zone. Walk around it.
  1. Stand at home plate. Tap Open in AR.
  2. Point at the ground and move the phone slowly until the zone drops in.
  3. Drag the white plate onto your real plate. Twist with two fingers until the flat front edge faces the mound.
  4. Walk it. Look from the mound, from the catcher's spot, and from the side.

Guidelines & sources
  • Little League International, Definition of the Little League Strike Zone. The space over home plate between the batter's armpits and the top of the knees in a natural stance. The umpire sets it from the batter's usual stance when swinging. The zone stays over the plate wherever the batter stands in the box.
  • Referee magazine, Strike Zone Math (2021). USA Softball fastpitch and NFHS softball: armpit to the top of the knees. NCAA softball uses the bottom of the sternum for the top. Not modeled here.
  • MLB. Major League Baseball defines the top and bottom differently. Not modeled here.
  • Home plate. 17 in across the front, the same in baseball and softball. The zone takes the plate's five-sided shape.
  • Height quick start. Top about 70% of standing height, bottom about 27%. DugoutLab rough estimate for a batting stance, not from a study. Flagged uncertain. Kids grow and crouch differently. Measure your hitter.
  • AR view. Apple AR Quick Look at true size, using the phone's motion tracking. Safari only on iPhone; other browsers can download the file and open it from Files. It can drift a little. Accuracy has not been measured. Flagged uncertain. DugoutLab build.
