My Age Group Tools Field Notes Why It Works

Back Pocket Card

Where are you going to hit it? Each player circles the spot, draws the flight, and writes it out. One laminated copy rides in the back pocket. The team's cards hang in the dugout every game.

  1. 1Print the cards. Four to a page. Cut once down the middle and once across.
  2. 2Players circle the spot, draw the flight from the side, and finish the sentence. Kids who can't write yet tell you, and you write it.
  3. 3Laminate two. One goes in the back pocket. One hangs on the dugout fence, every game.
  4. 4Before each at-bat: touch the pocket, see it, say it, hit.
Leave it empty to print unnamed cards.

Baseball card size is 2.5 x 3.5, nine to a page. It slides into a standard card sleeve or top loader for the back pocket.

For the dugout copy, put four finished cards on any copier and laminate the copies.
